In today’s fast-paced entrepreneurial landscape, approximately 500 to 600 million individuals are stepping into business ownership, many of whom find themselves navigating unfamiliar territories without adequate preparation. Alarmingly, nearly a quarter of small businesses fail within their first year. At this pivotal moment, developing an entrepreneurial mindset and skill set is more critical than ever. Young entrepreneurs must be equipped to transform challenges into opportunities, laying the foundation for resilient and innovative futures.

Youth Entrepreneurs (YE)—a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering aspiring entrepreneurs throughout Connecticut. Our mission is centered on preparing “Generation Genius” to become tomorrow’s social entrepreneurs. Through dynamic, hands-on programs tailored for middle and high school students, we aim to shape leaders across industrial, nonprofit, and governmental fields.

Our flagship summer enrichment program offers a transformative five-week experience. In this immersive journey, a select cohort of 20 middle and high school students engage in collaborative entrepreneurship coursework, integrating positive youth social and emotional learning, community engagement, and entrepreneurial skills. We also provide programs for adults, supporting entrepreneurs and professionals in enhancing their careers. All programs are accessible at no cost to eligible participants, with a focus on inclusivity for underrepresented and underserved youth.

Youth Entrepreneurs was founded by Dr. Laquita Joyner-McGraw, a seasoned professional with a deep background in nonprofit management, education, and community engagement. With over two decades of business communications expertise and more than 17 years in higher education, 

Dr. Joyner-McGraw’s leadership drives YE’s vision. Her dedication to fostering innovation and building community underscores her capacity to effect meaningful change across various sectors.

Fueled by a commitment to nurture the next generation’s potential, Dr. Joyner-McGraw established Youth Entrepreneurs to empower young leaders. Our core mission is to instill self-awareness, passion, and goal-setting skills, fostering holistic growth and positioning them for success in life and career.
